Oak is a durable hardwood that is a great choice for a restaurant table top. With a Janka rating of about 1300, Oak wood comes in just above Ash  in terms of hardness.

Generally, Oak wood has a light brown color with a reddish or golden hue and a medium amount of grain.  It’s also relatively lightweight for its strength, making it great for a busy restaurant.

You can order durable Oak butcher block tops with a carbonized finish or a stain finish. Carbonized tops undergo a special burning process to bring out the grain of the wood and are only available in 1½” thickness with waterfall edging.
